I would be more impressed with those generals’ criticisms of Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld if:
(1) they had not waited so long to criticize him. If he was really as bad as they say, why did not they retire and criticize him right away? As top officers in the armed forces, they had a responsibility. If they thought Secretary Rumsfeld was as bad as they say, they should have resigned immediately. Waiting until now makes it look like they just do not want to be blamed for the way things are going in Iraq.
(2) the criticism was not so personal. Too much of their criticism seems to be about how Rumsfeld was allegedly arrogant and disrespectful and did not take their advice. They almost sound like a bunch of kindergartners complaining that somebody was mean to them. If those generals thought Secretary Rumsfeld was forcing them to use the wrong strategy and tactics or was not giving them the right weapons or enough troops or supplies, they should say so and be specific. But if their complaint is that Secretary Rumsfeld is not a nice boss, I do not care.
