Last Friday Ryan Sager at RealClearPolitics.com posted pictures of yard signs for a couple of Republican Senate candidates (Michael Steele in Maryland and Mark Kennedy in Minnesota). The signs were blue, and Ryan commented Steele and Kennedy seemed to be taking their worries "about the scarlet R this campaign season" a bit too far.
Personally, I have no objection to either of these signs. What I object to is the national media giving the color red to the Republicans and blue to the Democrats.
Having been involved in politics a long time (since 1968, primarily in Illinois), I always remember seeing Democrats using red for their signs and the Republicans using blue for theirs. Back then, red seemed right for Democrats, and blue for Republicans – and it still does.
Actually, I want my Republican blue back, and if Steele and Kenney are part of a trend by Republicans to reclaim our blue, I am all for it.
