Some people say that Cubs fans will go to Wrigley Field no matter what, so there is no incentive for the Cubs to get better. Well, that may not be true anymore. The Cubs have, to say the least, not been doing well this year. And the new owners raised ticket prices. One of the ways they did it was almost doubling the number of "platinum" games, the games with the highest ticket prices, this year. Last year they had 14 platinum games. This year they are up to 26 (almost 1/3 of the total).
Also, last year the platinum games were the obvious ones. The Cardinals, the White Sox, a Brewers series in July, and the Mets in late August. But with 26 platinum games this year, they had to stretch to find games they could charge outrageous prices for. And so, the games last night and tonight against the Dodgers are platinum games. How did it work? Here is a picture I took of the center field bleachers last night at 7:05 pm, game time. Oh yes, the weather was beautiful.
P.S. I was there only because I got a $47.00 ticket for $9.00 (plus $9.95 in fees) on StubHub.
