First, apologies to Simon and Garfunkel.
Second, no, we don’t. Even with both Randy Wells and Andrew Cashner going on the 15-day DL, it was still the right decision to release Carlos Silva. Casey Coleman will do a fine job as our four starter. He was great the last six weeks of 2010, including winning Mike Quade’s first game as Cubs manager. And with an off day every week until the last week of April, the Cubs won’t need a fifth starter all that often.
In any case Carlos Silva is not our future. He was never going to be here in 2012, so we might as well see how the kids can do now. They are doing a fine job at short and second (Stalin Castro and Darwin Barney). There is no reason they can’t do it on the mound.
