In an interview in last Saturday’s Wall Street Journal, David McCullough talked about how little American students (and, therefore, Americans) how about American history, a not uncommon complaint.*
In that regard, I noted that President Obama, in his speech Wednesday night about Afghanistan, talked about a visit he made to the 101st Airborne and how they “fought to turn the tide in Afghanistan”. When I saw that comment, I wondered whether the President knows (I mean actually knows himself, not is told by some staff member) what the 101st Airborne is really famous for. I hope he does, because if he doesn’t, then his education in American history was lacking, too.
