As part of the season-long 100th birthday party for Wrigley Field, the Cubs are celebrating a different decade in each of ten different homestands. The homestand starting on Friday does the 1920s. According to the Cubs:
“The celebration of 100 years of Wrigley Field will continue May 2-6 as the Cubs host the second decade-themed homestand of the season …. The team’s throwback uniform, promotional giveaways, specialty food and beverage offerings and entertainment will mirror the sights and sounds of the 1920s at Wrigley Field.”
They go on to talk about the specialty drink they will be serving, a 1920s Upper Deck Gin Rickey, which I don’t understand. If you’re talking about the 1920s, you’re talking about Prohibition. If the Cubs really wanted to reflect the atmosphere and spirit of the Roaring Twenties, they wouldn’t have a specialty drink. In fact, they wouldn't serve beer or alcohol at all. They'd just let people sneak in what home-brew they could. Somehow, though, I don’t think the Cubs are looking for quite that much realism.
