This is belated, but it still deserves to be said. I don’t normally say good things about John Kerry, but let me do so now. Secretary of State Kerry flew in Kabul last week and may have saved that nation from a disastrous civil war just as the U.S. is ramping down its presence there and the Taliban are ramping up. The Wall Street Journal’s editorial here and Michael Crowley’s report in Time here tell the story.
Things still may not turn out well in Afghanistan, but with everything else Secretary Kerry has going right now, it was an impressive demonstration of how Secretary Kerry was able to use his personal connections and friendships with the leaders involved to get this deal done.
Good job, John Kerry.
