I’m back from a three-week-plus trip to China, and, as I hoped in my post of a month ago, the Cubs won the “coin-flip” game (i.e., the National League Wild Card game) [many thanks to Jennie and Ross for keeping me updated on that game via text messages] and they “did well” in the NLDS – to say the least. Now we are on our way to the National League Championship Series and a chance to win the NL pennant for the first time since, in the words of Steve Goodman, “the year we dropped the bomb on Japan.”
A lot of things happened while we were gone, and this is something I wanted to comment on when it happened, but it is hard to blog from behind the Great Firewall:
President Obama has accomplished something no other president has been able to accomplish: Get Russian (f/k/a Soviet) soldiers and airmen on the ground in Syria. No president since World War II has been able to do that. But President Obama’s foreign policy decisions and diplomatic skills got the job done.

PS I trust my sarcasm was sufficiently clear.
