It’s time to change the tagline for my blog. I changed it to “The Cubs will win as a team … in 2015” in early February in honor of Ernie Banks. It was the slogan Billy Williams came up with at Ernie’s funeral because it sounded so much like Ernie. And the Cubs did “win as a team” in 2015. They didn’t win quite as many as we hoped, but they won a lot more than we expected. And that is what we will remember. Just like we always remembered Ernie.
I used Abraham Lincoln’s “And this, too, shall pass away” for a long time because it helps remind me that the problems of whatever government is in power will eventually “pass away” (though the cost may be significant). I have also used, inter alia, “Hey Hey. Holy Mackerel. No Doubt About It” (for obvious reasons), “It’s spring, and a young man’s fancy turns to thoughts of … baseball,” and “Let’s Play Two!”
I have, however, decided to return, at least for a while, to “Second star to the right and straight on ‘til morning.” It feels right.
