This is not going well. The possible examples are many, but let me mention just one: President Trump’s tweet Saturday morning about President Obama wiretapping his phone at Trump Tower just before the election. I don’t know if that is true, but I do know a couple of things.
First, instead of just tweeting it out, without any backup information, why didn’t President Trump find out if it was true and then announce it. Announce it to the world with the facts. That would have been much more powerful than just another unsubstantiated conspiracy theory.
Second, this tweet (like so many others) makes the United States look like a bunch of fools. We’ve got North Korea killing people in Malaysia and launching more and more missiles. Who knows when Turkey and the Kurds might start fighting each other in Syria, if they are not already doing so. China is allowing articles to be published that suggest China could attack U.S./South Korean anti-missile installations in South Korea that are designed to protect South Korea against North Korean missiles. And the President of the United States is tweeting things like this?
The world is a dangerous place. What the world, including the United States, needs is a U.S. President who is respected and trusted. Respected because of his intelligence and understanding. Trusted because he keeps his word and doesn’t go around making rash statements.
As I said, this is not working.
