Last Monday, U.S. Representative Joaquin Castro (Dem, Tex.) tweeted a list of 44 people in San Antonio, Texas, who contributed the maximum amount to President Trump’s campaign in 2019, with this comment:
“Sad to see so many San Antonians as 2019 maximum donors to Donald Trump – the owner of @BillMillerBarBQ, owner of the @HistoricPearl, realtor Phyllis Browning, etc. Their contributions are fueling campaign of hate that labels Hispanic immigrants as ‘invaders.’”
Representative Joaquin Castro is the twin brother of Julian Castro, former Mayor of San Antonio and Secretary of Housing and Urban Development under President Obama, and a candidate for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination. The tweet came just after the mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton last weekend.
Instead of commenting on Representative Castro’s tweet, let me just link to this post from October of 2014: “Can Americans Be Trusted With Campaign Finance Disclosures?”
