But for this stupid virus, I would be at the Cubs Convention this coming weekend – for the 30th time in 32 years.1 I understand why the Cubs cancelled the Convention this year. What I don’t understand is why they are doing nothing for the fans in its place.
People are working from home on their computers. Schools that can’t open in person are teaching via Zoom. Theaters and concerts are livestreaming performances. But the Cubs? Nothing.
Fans would have even been happy to pay to get their winter fix of baseball, along with hope for the spring. But the Cubs couldn’t get it done. One can only hope that they do a better job with the team next season than they are doing for the fans this off-season.

1 I missed the first four because our kids were too young. (Our son disagrees. He says he could have gone to the ’86 Convention. He was, after all, a week old).
2 Though maybe there could have been some difficulty in knowing who would still be on the team on Friday. For that matter, I’m not sure today who will be on the team on Friday.
