The Biden administration energy policy reminds me a lot of Johnny Lee’s 1980 hit country song “Looking for Love (In All the Wrong Places)”, except it should be changed to “Looking for Oil in All the Wrong Places.” With, first, inflation surging and, now, Russia invading Ukraine, the Biden administration is looking for oil. Except it is looking in the wrong places.
Late last year, with gas prices up, the Administration asked Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states to increase oil production. They wouldn’t. According to some reports, one of the reasons the Administration is pushing to reinstate the Iran nuclear agreement is to get Iranian oil back on the world market. The New York Times has reported that Administration officials are talking with Venezuela on ways to end on sanctions on their oil, to get supplies up and gas prices down.
“I spent a lifetime lookin' for you
Single bars and good time lovers were never true
Playing a fools game, hopin' to win
And tellin' those sweet lies and losin' again”
Which sounds like the Biden administration’s energy policy. Looking for oil from Saudi, the Gulf states, Iran, Venezuela. That’s “playing a fools game.” But increasing oil and gas production in the United States; that’s a “no go.” Even though House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says she would support banning U.S. purchases of Russian oil, last Thursday she said, “I’m not for drilling on public lands.”
The Biden administration is looking for oil. It just doesn’t seem willing to fight the green/climate change people in the United States so it can look for it in the United States. They will get mad if we drill more here, but apparently won’t complain, at least as much, if we use oil drilled elsewhere. But oil is oil. It doesn’t matter where it comes from; it has the same effect on the atmosphere and climate change.
So, the Biden administration is “playing a fools game,” “looking for oil in all the wrong places.”
