If Republicans Win on Tuesday, Will They Lose in 2024?

Pollsters and prognosticators are saying the Republicans will win the House, and maybe even the Senate, on Tuesday.  But the question is: If the Republicans do win on Tuesday, even just the House, what will they do with that victory?  Will they come up with programs to deal with our problems?  Will they pass a budget that makes sense and do it on time?  Will they actually pass legislation to try to accomplish something?¹ 

Or will they use their power to investigate Hunter Biden and his laptop?  Will they push even more investigations into Donald Trump’s constant claims about how the 2020 elections was stolen from him?²  Will they try to impeach Joe Biden? 

If the Republicans focus on the latter, and I think there is a fair chance a lot of them will want to (especially in the House), then they are going to lose in 2024.  Because the American people are tired of politicians who just keep looking backwards, harping on old grievances.  What they are looking for are leaders who put the past aside and focus on the future. 

If Republicans want to win not just on Tuesday but in 2024, too, they need to stop complaining about the past and start telling the American people how they are going to help make the future as good as it can be.  Will the Republicans do it?  That is what we are going to find out.  And what choice they make will determine whether they win, or lose, in 2024.³

¹ President Biden would obviously veto any such bills, but that doesn’t mean the Republicans shouldn’t pass them.  That would be the best way to tell the American people what they would do if they won in 2024.
² Note how former President Trump always talks about the election being stolen “from him”; not “from the American people”, but “from him”.  But that’s former President Trump.  It’s all about him.
