I watched the debate last night – or at least as much of it as I could until I had to turn it off. Unfortunately, I missed the golf handicap segment. Which is amazing. We had the world, including people like Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping, and Kim Jong Un, i.e., people who have nuclear weapons, watching, and the two candidates for our top job are arguing about their golf handicap?
Donald Trump was his normal fact-free self. Nothing new. As for Joe Biden, I’m only surprised by how many people were surprised. I don’t know what the Democrats are going to do vis-à-vis November. But, more importantly, I don’t know what the United States is going to do until January. Who is making the decisions in the White House? Who is Joe Biden’s Edith Bolling Galt Wilson?
But then I realized that, even if Illinois is close, my vote still doesn’t matter. Because if Illinois is close, that means Trump is sweeping the rest of the nation (except maybe California and D.C.) and will get enough electoral votes to win long before Illinois is decided. So, I still don’t have to vote for either of these guys. Whew!
PS If whoever is running things in the White House had been able to convince Joe Biden to not run back in 2023, so that the Democrats would have chosen somebody competent as their candidate, might the Republicans have figured out that they needed to nominate a decent candidate, too? The Republicans might have still chosen Trump, but maybe not. And wouldn’t that have been nice: Nikki Haley versus a competent Democrat? Politics done the way it is supposed to be done.
